12 Videos on Creativity

I’ve been collecting links to videos, research studies and other resources related to creativity for a few years now on ‘Delicious.com.’ I figured it’s time to compile the best of those resources into a couple lists that others might find useful. Here is the first with a dozen of my favorite videos on the topic of creativity.

  1. Schools Kill Creativity. I hadn’t heard of Sir Ken Robinson before watching his 2006 seminal TED Talk on ‘schools and creativity.’ But, now, I can’t think of anyone who I associate more with efforts to elevate the importance of creativity in schools today.

  2. Everything is a Remix Part 2. A reminder that ‘new’ ideas don’t appear out of nowhere, rather they come from combining old ideas in new ways.

Everything is a Remix Part 2 from Kirby Ferguson on Vimeo.

  3. 29 Ways to Stay Creative by TO-FU Motion Graphics Studio. Note: I’m dropping this video in here to replace the one that was here earlier but is no longer available online. (CR 9.19.11)

  4. Something Provocative. Animation by a student for a graduation project, promoting the importance of creativity and self-expression.

  5. IDEO – A global chain reaction. IDEO designers built a Rube Goldberg inspired contraption that covered eight cities and three continents in fourteen minutes. Imagine doing something like this in your classroom?

  6. Outside the Box. Just what does ‘thinking outside the box’ mean?

  7. Why Man Creates. The opening segment of a classic movie ‘Why Man Creates’ created by Saul Bass in 1968.

  8. Creativity | Goal 2009. Students from the Digital Arts Technology Academy (DATA) at Cathedral City High School (CA) share what creativity means to them.

  9. Child’s Creativity. A child’s creativity is enormous, but what’s the boundary? What about rules?

  10. Creatives Grow Better in the South West. The South West produces some of the UK’s finest creative work (animation, web design, design, fashion, architecture.) Now you know why: nice conditions, space to breathe and opportunities with some of the best firms around.

  11. What Can Creativity Do?. Video shown at the Night of the Unboring (2005), a benefit for the Ontario College of Art and Design.

  12. Charlie Rose Brain Series Episode Twelve: Creative Brain. A discussion about creativity with artists Richard Serra and Chuck Close, neurologist Oliver Sacks, Ann Temkin, chief curator of painting and sculpture at The Museum of Modern Art and Eric Kandel of Columbia University.
