The Fundred Dollar Bill Project

The Fundred Dollar Bill Project invites students of all ages to participate in a giant performance artwork and collective creative action to support the rebuilding of New Orleans. The project’s goal is to collect three hundred million Fundred Dollar Bills created by students around the U.S., which will be picked up at various collection points nationwide by a specially designed armored truck that will deliver the Fundred Dollar Bills to Washington D.C. The hope is that the government will match the fundred hundred dollar bills with actual hundred dollar bills to help New Orleans.

Internationally Recognized Artist Mel Chin originated The Fundred Dollar Bill Project to draw attention to the continuing financial needs of Katrina victims and to show that creative actions can make a significant difference. Chin often does collaborative projects with students like the Fundred Dollar Bill Project, which he sees as a collective art project where every contribution is valuable and celebrated.

To learn more about the project and how your students can get involved, visit the Fundred Dollar Bill Project website at www.fundred.org (password: “paydirt.”) There you will find a simple lesson plan, templates, as well as information on the truck and how many bills have been collected to date (on the Fundred Vault Page).
