A summer assortment

In going through my collection of links from this past year, these sites seemed worth passing along:

In ArtVenture: A Collector’s Challenge, students assume the role of a famous art expert sent to a virtual art shop in London to collect artwork according to a theme.

Vermont ARTT offers online visual arts mentoring for students in grades 1-12 who submit their artwork for sharing and critique by professional artists, teachers, and other students.

Check out the art made by the World’s Only Professional Turtle Artist, Koopa.

Check out what’s happening in the Art & Design program at the Auchinleck Academy in East Ayrshire, Scotland.

Imagination at Work—draw with a friend.

Box Doodle Project—the rules are quite simple: rearrange a box to make any kind of figure or object.

Self Portrait UK 14—19 offers an excellent opportunity to illustrate to your students a wide variety of approaches to self-portraiture.

Black Self/White Self is a thought-provoking lesson exploring issues of race and identity through writing and photography. Although the authors worked with fifth graders here, the idea could easily be adapted to other age levels.

Ruins of the Future—don’t believe everything you click.

I know that Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s “Gates Project” in Central Park (NYC) is old news, but check out The Crackers and The Gates—A Photo Essay by Rob Kutner, for a laugh.
