Art Advocacy

While poking around the Web this week, I came across the following items that provide strong support for the arts in schools and thought they were worth sharing here:

sir robinson
In a 2006 TED Conference Speech, Sir Ken Robinson, author of “Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative,” makes an appealing case for the arts as a part of an education system that nurtures creativity, rather than undermines it. The 20-minute video is both entertaining and thought-provoking.

Over on Alan November’s blog, you can listen to his interview with Daniel Pink, author of “A Whole New Mind,” who offers a strong argument for the arts in schools in order to prepare students for the realities of a global economy. Pink will be a featured speaker at next month’s NAEA conference in New York. Downloading and listening to his interview beforehand will provide a good prelude to his talk there.
