Nancy Judd’s Recycled Fashions

I’ve been under the weather this week, but was able to get out of the house tonight for a special event at our local Natural History Museum in Gainesville. Artist and environmentalist, Nancy Judd (shown on the left above) was in town with her Recycle Runway show that features a collection of glamorous outfits, all created from recycled materials including rusty nails, target bags, coke cans, loops of cassette tape, crushed glass, and more. As an added treat for me, several of my art education students served as runway models. That’s Lydel in the middle picture above wearing Nancy’s “Carmen Miranda” inspired attire that was commissioned by Target, and Jamie, in the picture on the right, wearing Nancy’s Rusty Nail Cocktail Dress.

With all the buzz right now about eco-friendly living and practices, Nancy is a great artist to share with your students and to use as an inspiration for staging a Recycled Fashions Show as a school-wide project.
